Swan Lake Waltz for Flute Choir
Swan Lake Act 1 Waltz for Flute Choir (Piccolo, 4 C flutes, Alto Flute, Bass Flute)
Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged by Gregory M Milliren
In this arrangement of the famous waltz from Act 1 of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Swan Lake, I have tried to capture the wide variety of orchestral colors within the medium of a flute ensemble. This waltz is one of my favorites and is a superb example of Tchaikovsky’s ballet music at its finest. That is, it transcends its role as mere accompaniment and becomes its own character central to the action. The music conjures up grand opulence, fairy tale settings, and quirky personalities while expressing the sheer joy of physical movement. As Tito Puente said, “If there is no dance, there is no music.”
